After the mining industry declined, the main economic activity shifted from the production of copper and charcoal to making bobbin laces.

The Harmanecká jaskyňa cave is situated in the Veľká Fatra Mts. The cave is known for occurrence of rare white soft sinter, tall pagodas and sinter lakes.

In the age of computers and fast cars we can think about how our ancestors used to live. They lived a practical life in harmony with nature. Location the district city of RUŽOMBEROK on the eastern foothills of the Veľká Fatra mountains, the north-western slopes of the Nízke Tatry Mts. and the nearby south-western slopes of the Chočské vrchy Mts., creates the city's unique background - its three sides are enclosed by the mountains and the eastern side is open to the Liptovská kotlina basin.

The wooden articled church. In 2008, along with seven wooden churches of the Slovak part of Carpathian Mountain Area, it was included on the UNESCO's Word Heritage List.

This fine park, which is located in the beautiful setting of the Choč Mountains overlooking both the Low and Western Tatras, boasts a wide variety of three indoor and thirteen outdoor pools, nine outdoor water slides, a number of children's slides and hot tubs. The most attractive tourist locality of the northern Slovakia is the Orava Castle lying on the river Orava near the village Oravský Podzámok, below impressive cliffs. In 1370, it became a county castle and the seat of the Orava Castle estate, which included almost the whole region of Orava.

The Zvolen Castle, which is located on the bank of the Slatina River, is the most distinctive feature and symbol of the Central Slovakian town of Zvolen. An armoured train commemorating the Slovak National Uprising is placed nearby the castle.

On the right side of the valley Demänovská dolina below the northern slopes of the mountains Nízke Tatry is another cave open to public - Demänovská ľadová jaskyňa.

On the southern end of the village Bystrá below the southern slope of the Low Tatras is the entrance to the Bystrianska jaskyňa cave, which consists of two: the Stará and Nová jaskyňa caves with a total length of more than 3,000 metres.

One of greatest attractions in regions Horehronie and central Slovakia is the historic Čiernohronská forest railway. It once hauled timber down the picturesque valley of the river Čierny Hron, now it transports visitors and above all their children.

The gem of Bojnice is the ”fairy-tale” Bojnický zámok Castle, one of the most visited and most beautiful castles not only in Slovakia, but also in central Europe.

Three kilometres away from Zuberec, at Brestová, a unique open-air Museum of the Orava Village (Múzeum oravskej dediny) can be visited. Over an area of about 20 hectares, and on both sides of the crystal clean Studený potok brook, is a village containing the typical folk buildings moved here from various regions of Orava.
